Administrative Features:
It is located at 23°04′19″N 85°16′49″E to the south of Jharkhand. Khunti is said to be the Entertainment Zone of State Capital Ranchi. Khunti is surrounded by Ranchi & Gumla districts in the north, Chaibasa & Seraikela districts in the south, Ranchi & Saraikela districts in the east, Gumla & Simdega districts in the west.

Ranchi the capital city of Jharkhand is just 35 kms from Khunti city.

According to 2011 Census the total population of the district is 5.298 Lakhs. Out of which 2.65 Lakh is Male and 2.64 Lakh female population. The Rural Population is 529882 and Urban Population is 36329, the sex ratio is 994 female per thousand Male.

Languages:

  • Mundari is spoken by 94% of the Munda race.
  • Birhor: Dialect is spoken only by the Birhore tribes. Largely the population    understands Hindi also. Kharia is another dialect which is also included in the Munda family. It has largely been influenced by the Aryan languages.
  • Kurukh: The language which belongs to Dravidain family, is the language of the   Oraons and is spoken in the villages.
  • Nagpuria: A variety of Eastern Magahi is another language commonly spoken throughout the subdivision.
  • Panch Parganis language is spoken mainly in the area of Bunda& Sonahatu and the language is influenced by the Bangla Culture.

However, Devanagari Script is in vogue all over the District and is used as medium of education is most of the school – Government or Private.

There are 747 Primary schools, 188 middle schools, 43 high schools and 3 collages. Apart from Government School
